Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Tipón

  • Tipón: It’s said that Tipon was a royal garden supervised by Wiracocha; it’s one of the best examples of agriculture terraces made by the Incas; these terraces are extended throughout the valley and are fed by water coming from the Apu (mountain) Pachatusan. You can also see a compound of churches, irrigation canals and aqueducts. This archaeological site is situated 24 kms south east of Cusco.
  • Pikillaqta: is the only pre-Incan site close to Cusco. This site made of mud was built by the Wari culture between 700 and 900 after Christ. A few meters from the area you can see a small Incan site known as Rumicolca that was used as a type of road toll for the travelers that passed through the site.
  • Andahuaylillas: is one of the colonial villages of the territory, in this village we find an Antique church known as “The Sistine chapel of Peru”; it’s the home of Golden altars, paintings from the Cusco art school and colorful ceilings. The chapel is simple and modest in its exterior; but once inside you will be able to see the marvelous interior decorated by artwork from the famous Cusco art school.

Returning we pass through the village of Saylla where typical food from Cusco can be found; delicious fried pork, oven baked piglet and a soup that has been eaten since the Incan days known as Chairo.
