The Vinicunca Mountain known as the Rainbow Mountain tour, offers an enchanting landscape with all of the colors of the rainbow mountain piled one over the other. The multicolored blanket or the reflection of the rainbow on earth, Vinicunca Mountain elevates so it can be admired all year. This rainbow mountain place is located at almost 5,000 meters of altitude (16,400 feet) and three hours of trekking. The bright sun will make you company during the trek as well as camelids like llamas or alpacas, sheep, horses and the impressive mountains that will play the lead role in your photos.
We leave Cusco really early, about 4:00 a.m. due to the long journey ahead and the fact that we want to squeeze as much as possible out of this trip (we pick you up at your hotel)
We head towards Qollasuyo, an old path of the Quechua people, which is an important part of the Tawantinsuyo (the 4 Inca regions) first we reach Checacupe and then we continue to the village of Pitumarca.
During the journey we will be enjoying the beautiful landscapes and valleys of Pitumarca before reaching the Japura Hachipacha with native quechuas.
Finally we arrive in Chillca where we will have a delightful breakfast at an altitude of 4200 masl, this is the starting point of the trek towards the Rainbow Mountain.
After our breakfast we begin the trek passing by beautiful landscapes where South American camelids and other animals live (alpacas, llamas, vicuñas, puma, Andean birds, condors etc.)
The trek to the Rainbow Mountain takes about 3 hours. We arrive at a place called Vinicunca Mountain situated at 5200 masl, from where we observe the impressing view of the colored mountain, the sun rise shows off the impressive valley and the mountains with their magical colors that can only be seen in this place in our Peruvian mountain range.
It’s time to take out our camera or cell phone to snap some photos of the amazing view as the landscape looks unreal like taken from a Sci-Fi movie.
Around us we can see various mountains like Apu Sarini and Ausangate mountain, the latter one is the highest mountain in Cusco with an altitude of 6372 masl.
After enjoying the landscape and taking many photos we start our trek back to the village of Chillca (about 2 hours), the village of Chillca is formed by herdsmen of llamas and alpacas and is known as the guardian of these Andean places.
We begin our journey back to Cusco, arriving around 6 p.m.
